Spiritual impulse on the theme of “interior views” in the cathedral

For many people, Advent is associated with hectic pace, stress and consumption. In the Christian tradition, the pre-Christmas season was originally conceived differently: Advent was the time of waiting and preparing for the coming of the Messiah, which was filled with fasting, prayer and penitential exercises. Festivities, public dances and even church weddings were forbidden.

Today, the opposite of what has been described is the case. And yet, in the pre-Christmas appointment marathon there is often a subliminal longing for peace and inner contemplation. In the first year of the pandemic, the Aachen cathedral chapter responded to this need and “invented” a small spiritual break. This year the Advent impulses take place on Fridays – so to speak as a respite after work done and before visiting the Christmas market. At 6:30 p.m. tower winds play Advent songs in the direction of the Domhof. This is followed by a 15-minute spiritual impulse on the theme of “interior views” in the cathedral, before the evening bell begins at 7 p.m.
